“OppresSoeurs | Opprimées” a new digital initiative by group Haïti lutte contre l'impunité (Haiti Fights against Impunity)
To mark the International Day to end Violence against Women, Haïti lutte contre l'impunité, has created a new digital display to explore the role and place of women during the father and son Duvalier dictatorships (1957-1986). As many of you must be aware of, women were among the primary victims of the regime. Rape and other forms of sexual violence were routinely employed by state actors, most notably the Tontons Macoutes, to suppress dissidence or simply as acts of terror. In this particular digital exposé, however, the Haïti lutte contre l'impunité group decided to look beyond narratives of victimhood (without downplaying their importance) to consider the multilayered impact of this dictatorship on women. Some women came to occupy an important role in the regime (some went as far as joining paramilitary groups like their male counterparts.) Other women joined the resistance and paid a high price for their political convictions. This exposition tries to shed some light on their lives.
No such thing as Black History || From time’s beginning, History was always black, until it became bleached …
Once upon a time, Black-ish meant we built Empires. But after many Scandals by Mad Men in Suits, Orange evidently became the New Black, the new Blacklist || The American Horror Story.
